Health, safety and the environment

Health and safety at work, environmental protection and product excellence are all top priorities for our company and are included in its strategic goals. 

We constantly strive to ensure the working environment is a safe place for our employees by taking organizational measures, delivering training and providing technical equipment. We pay special attention to prevention, using the DIN ISO 45001 standard to help us. We monitor work environments daily to detect potential risks or dangers and swiftly take any preventive and corrective measures required. Protecting the environment is important to us, as is protecting the health of our workers. We achieve our objectives in these areas through ongoing prevention, with a focus on key issues that are generally aligned with those of our professional organizations.

To help with all the above, Gipsbergbau Engel has its own mine rescue team, which also provides vital assistance in hazardous situations and emergencies. Training exercises with realistic scenarios and simulations are regularly organized to fully prepare the team for hazardous and emergency situations, as well as rescue operations, in accordance with the guidelines published by the German Committee for Mine Rescue.

Mine rescue team

Our mine rescue team is made up of two rescue officers and two small squads of three rescuers each. If an incident or accident occurs, we initiate an emergency or self-escape plan in accordance with the German Mining Trade Association’s guidelines on organizing, equipping and deploying mine rescue teams. Our rescue equipment also complies with those guidelines and is kept ready for use in a room designed for that purpose.

With the agreement of the competent mine rescue station, Gipsbergbau Engel and other nearby underground mining companies have signed mutual aid agreements. Joint mine rescue team training exercises are regularly organized with the rescue services.
