Natural gypsum and anhydrite as fertilizers
(Calcium sulphate)
We bulk deliver our calcium and sulphur-rich sulphate fertilizer, Minerosul 40®. Minerosul 40®.
Minerosul 40® Based on a natural blend of gypsum and anhydrite, our Minerosul 40® fertilizer is supplied as minigranules (0-2 mm). It is easy to apply using a fertilizer spreader. Gypsum is a natural mineral that does not modify the pH of soil. Calcium serves as an essential building block for creating bridges between
clay and humus (clay-humus complex), thereby improving soil structure. As for sulphates, they are
absorbed by plants directly, providing them with the sulphur they need.
Sulphur and plant health:
- Sulphur belongs to the group of main nutrients
- Sulphur is essential for the synthesis of sulphur-containing amino acids such as cysteine and methionine and therefore has an influence on the entire protein biosynthesis process
- Sulphur improves nitrogen efficiency
- Sulphur is important for the formation of S-containing secondary plant substances (e.g. glucosinolates in rapeseed)
- Sulphur is a component of vitamin B1 (component of cereal grains, legumes)
- A sufficient presence of sulphur is essential for symbiotic nitrogen (N) fixation
For sulphur deficiency:
-
the N utilisation in the plant decreases
-
the N cycle in the plant is virtually blocked
-
the N/S ratio increases and the nitrate content rises
-
the number of nodules and the N-fixing capacity decreases
Sulphur dynamics in the soil:
-
Sulphur is largely organically bound in the soil
-
Uptake - after mineralisation - predominantly as SulphateIon (SO4 2) > Water-soluble > Rapidly translocated to the soil as nitrate
-
Capillary water rise from the subsoil can cause an increase in the sulphate content in the root area of the plants (deep soils, e.g. loess and clay soils)
-
Natural gypsum/anhydrite rocks with a composition similar to that of Minerosul 40® release the sulphate content partly promptly and partly with a time delay. This also supports the soil structure
Sulphur deficiency sites:
-
Light soils, shallow soils, especially with higher rainfall
-
Cold, slow-moving locations
The sulphate content of Minerosul 40® is >40%.
